Abdelkader Chanderli
Abdelkader Chanderli was an Algerian diplomat and administrator. Born in Algeria in 1915 into a family of Turkish magistrates, he obtained a degree in literature from the Sorbonne and then a diploma from the Institute of Political Science in Paris. He then served in the French Army between 1943 and 1945 in Algeria, France and Germany.
Career
Editor of a French newspaper in Shanghai from 1946 to 1948; Head of Public Relations at UNESCO in Paris; Representative of the National Liberation Front (FLN) at the United Nations in New York and in Washington during the War of Independence; First permanent Representative of Algeria at the UN in 1962; Director-General of Political, Economic and Cultural Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Director of the National Oil Company SONATRACH and Head of the Special Organization set up by the UN Special Fund on the planning of the Algerian Chemical Industry; Director of the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development; President and CEO of the largest petrochemical complex in his country: the Algerian Liquid Methane Company (CAMEL). After a stay in Kuwait where he was vice-president of the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development (FADES), he settled permanently in Geneva in 1981. He was then an international consultant for the oil industry, of which he became a real expert.

He passed away in 1993 and is buried in Geneva.
