AbdulMajeed Melhem (born August 15, 1977) is a Palestinian businessman. He started his professional career with the Palestinian Cellular Communications Company “Jawwal” in 1999.,[1] where he held several managerial positions, including Sales Manager and Customer Care Manager. In the year 2010,[2] he was promoted by the Board of Directors to occupy the position of General Manager of the Palestine Telecommunications Company “Paltel”[3], which is the first Palestinian telecommunications company specialized in wireless communications, and operates in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, and it is one of the companies of the Palestinian Telecommunications Group.[4][5]
Early life and education
AbdulMajeed Melhem was born on August 15, 1977 in Hebron, in the West Bank. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Accounting and Financial Sciences from Hebron University, and obtained several specialized certificates in the field of management, financial sciences, and marketing from prestigious international institutions[6].
Career
He is currently the CEO of the Palestinian Telecommunications Group,[7] which is the largest employer (after the government) in Palestine, employing approximately 3,000 people. The Paltel Group consists of four companies: Palestine Telecommunications (Paltel), Palestine Cellular Communications Company Ltd. (Jawwal), Al-Hadara Company (internet provider), and Reach (call center).[8]
He held the position of CEO of the Palestinian Cellular Communications Company “Jawwal” where he was its general manager since 2014. He is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Electronic Payment Company, a member of the Board of Trustees of Hebron University,[9] a member of the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of the Palestine Development and Investment Company[10] and a member of the Board of Directors of Arkan Real Estate Company, in addition to being a member of the Executive Office of the Palestinian Olympic Committee for the middle provinces.[11]
Leadership contributions
- Enhancing investment in the network and infrastructure, employing the latest technologies in it, and increasing the spread of Internet services and doubling their speeds in Palestine[12][13].
- Under the leadership of AbdulMajeed Melhem, Paltel was able to establish the first direct link to the Palestinian network via the international submarine cable[14].
- Launching 3G services in 2018 in the West Bank[15][16][17].
- Jawwal, under the leadership of AbdulMajeed Melhem, launched the first electronic wallet in Palestine, to be the first company to obtain the final license from the Palestinian Monetary Authority[18][19]
