ABENA is a Danish, family-owned company that develops, manufactures, and distributes consumable products for, among others, the healthcare sector, the food industry, and cleaning services. The company was founded in 1953 and is headquartered in Aabenraa, Denmark.[1]
The company was founded in 1953 by Jens Terp-Nielsen under the name Sækko A/S and originally operated in the trade of jute sacks and packaging for agriculture.[2] During the 1970s and 1980s, the company expanded its activities to include the production of diapers and incontinence products, which became a key business area. In 2003, the company changed its name to ABENA.[1]
ABENA operates internationally and has activities in a number of export markets, as well as subsidiaries in several countries.[2] The company produces, among other things, incontinence products, diapers, and hygiene products, and distributes related consumables to professional and institutional customers, including the healthcare sector and service industries.[1] Part of the production takes place at its own factories in Denmark, Sweden, and France, while other products are supplied through a global supplier network.[1][2]
According to the industry organization the Confederation of Danish Industries (Dansk Industri), the company has developed into a billion-dollar business with significant exports and an international presence.
ABENA is still owned by the founding family.
