Abetifi Presbyterian Senior High School, commonly known as Abetifi Presby or APSEC, is a co-educational second-cycle institution in Abetifi, in the Kwahu East District of the Eastern Region of Ghana. The school was established on 6 February 1956 by the Presbyterian Church of Ghana in partnership with the chiefs and people of Abetifi.[1][2] It operates as a public mission school under the Ghana Education Service.
Abetifi Presby is historically recognised as the first senior high school to be established on the Kwahu Ridge.[3] The school is located in Abetifi, a town on the Kwahu Plateau noted for its relatively high altitude and cool climate. The campus occupies an extensive area on the plateau, and the school community emphasises discipline and academic work within a Christian mission setting.[2]
History
Plans to establish a Presbyterian secondary school in the Kwahu area began in the early 1950s as part of mission and community efforts to expand access to secondary education. With support from local leaders and the Presbyterian Church, the school opened on 6 February 1956.[1] In subsequent years the school became part of the national secondary education system while retaining its mission affiliation.
Over the decades, the school has admitted students from across the Kwahu area and beyond. Past pupils have gone on to careers in education, public service, business, and other fields.[3]
Academics
The school offers the following programs under the Ghana Education Service curriculum:
The school prepares students for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and places emphasis on both academic and moral education.[2]
