Abhay Chhabra (born 12 November 1984) is an Indian film director, producer and writer who works in Hindi cinema.[2][3] His Punjabi film Yaaran Da Katchup got 4 nominations at PTC, namely Rishi Raj for Best Cinematography, Hardy Sandhu and Varun Sharma for Best Debut Actor (male) and Abhay Chhabra for Best Debut Director. Abhay's other notable work includes CyberSquad (2017), U, Me Aur Ghar (2017) and Alif (2016 film). His upcoming Hindi feature film Tumhari Pyari Savita[4] is in post-production.

Early life

Abhay Chhabra was born in Jalalabad district, in Firozpur, Punjab. He completed his MBA in finance and began a small-scale business in Chandigarh to support his family. However, his dream to be a filmmaker and make romantic movies like Yash Johar led him to Mumbai. He studied filmmaking in ZIMA and assisted in TV serials.

Career

2014: Directorial career

Abhay debuted as an independent film director in 2014 with the multi-starrer Punjabi film Yaaran Da Katchup.[5] It was the debut of the actor Hardy Sandhu and also a debut in the Punjabi industry of Bollywood actors Varun Sharma, Anita Hassanandani and Yuvika Chaudary. Interestingly, while in a bar with his producer Vikram Bansal, Abhay Chhabra heard a song being sung there. He was impressed by the voice of the singer and gave him a chance in the film. Gurnazar Chattha debuted as a music composer with this film. The film bagged 4 nominations in PTC awards. Hardy Sandhu and Varun Sharma were nominated for Best Debut Actors, Rishi Raj was nominated for Best Cinematographer and Abhay Chhabra was nominated for Best Debut Director [1]. The film got excellent reviews from the audience.

2015-Present

Abhay Chhabra started his own production house, Pushing Partner Pictures, in 2015. Since then he has collaborated with various brands like Reliance, Jawed Habib, Lovable, SVC Bank, etc.[6]. Celebrities like Cricketer Shreyas Iyer[7], Actress Surveen Chawla, Actress Dipika Kakar, Actor Hiten Tejwani collaborated with Pushing Partner Pictures & Abhay Chhabra for various Ad-Films.

2022: Upcoming Work

Abhay Chhabra is making his debut as a director & producer in Bollywood with a feature film 'Tumhari Pyari Savita'[8] starring Mallika Sherawat, Rajat Kapoor, Vaibhav Tatwawaadi,Aanchal Munjal,Vrajesh Hirjee and Sumit Gulati. A Holi song[9] is picturized on Mallika Sherawat and Rajat Kapoor in this film titled 'Gabbar se keh do'. The film will be released in 2022.
