Abraham Dayan (born November 21st, 1960) is a French artist currently based in Le Havre, France.[1][2]
Biography
Dayan grew up in Paris.[3] As a young boy he visited the Palace of Versailles and some of the most important Parisian cultural spots such as Louvre museum or Musée d’Orsay, acquiring a taste for art. During the 80s he mostly worked for his family business and he created a watch brand. At the beginning of the 90s he made a career change which led him to become an artist.[4][1]
His early works were very influenced by Modigliani’s elongation style and Cubism’s geometrical approach.[5][6] His personal style has progressively explored reality through a deconstruction process which formally can be traced back to the way Cubist artists used to break down objects or people to represent them from several angles at the same time. French writer and sociologist Alain Robert Coulon defined it as a “Demiurgic deconstruction”, meaning a sort of scientific analysis of the different dimensions and layers hidden inside and beyond the appearance of reality.[7] He is also influenced by Expressionism and Constructivism.[8]
From 1997 to 2004 the artist lived and worked in the U.S. where he painted and sold his works while living in Miami, Savannah and New York City.[3]
