From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Abraham Putnik (Bela Crkva, Banat, Austrian Empire, 1730 - Arad, Hungary, then part of the Austrian Empire, now Romania, 5 March 1795) was a major general of the Austro-Hungarian army.[1]

An ethnic Serb, Putnik was born in 1730 in the Banat Military Frontier (Serbian: Банатска крајина/Banatska krajina) which at the time was a district of the Habsburg Monarchy's Military Frontier located in the Banat region, also known as Šajkaška. Abraham Putnik's family came from Banat, particularly Opovo and Bela Crkva where he was born, though his ancestors are from Montenegro.[2] His family tree included many distinguished characters and personages in the service of the Austrian military and the Serbian Orthodox Church.

Military career

Putnik entered military service in 1747 as a corporal in the Banat Military Frontier. After graduating from the Military Academy in 1754, he became an Austrian officer. He fought in many battles, including the Battle of Kolin and the Battle of Landeshut during several wars (War of the Austrian Succession, Seven Years' War, War of the Bavarian Succession). He received the rank of major in 1765, lieutenant colonel in 1775, and colonel in 1783. From 1788 to 1793, Putnik was the Commander of the German-Banat General Regiment. In 1793 he was made major general[3][4]

He died two years later (1795) in Arad.
