The Abu Abse Dewlap[1] is an ornamental or fancy pigeon originally from Syria, Lebanon. [2] [3]

This bird has distinct sheening (iridescent) black feathers that cover the entire body, its eyes are dark green with large pupils. The birds will have on average 18 tail feathers with the same colour and properties as their other feathers.[2]
Importation to Australia
Since approximately 1970, migration/immigration has become much less restricted in Australia[4] during the same period Australia started to implement less strict importation policies allowing for new things and animals to more easily enter the country. [5]
Due to the relaxing of this policy, one cock and one hen were imported into Australia by a Syrian ex-patriot who lived in Melbourne named Adan Alsaleem. This importation took place somewhat recently in the mid-1990s.[2]
