Abubakar Adamu (born September 11, 1966) is a major general of the Nigerian Army and the Commander of Nigeria Army Cyber Warfare Command (NACWC) of Nigeria, appointed after his promotion from Brigadier general to Major general while he was the third acting commander of the Nigeria Army Cyber Warfare Command.[1]
Early life
Abubakar Adamu was born on September 11, 1966 in Gembu Town, Sardauna Local Government Area of Taraba State, Nigeria. He began his education at Nurul-Ulum Primary School, Gembu from 1973 to 1979. After which he was admitted to Government Science Secondary School, Jalingo from 1979 to 1984. Adamu then proceeded to the College of Preliminary Studies, Yola from 1984 to 1986. He attended Nigeria Defence Academy, Kaduna as a short service commission officer in 1987.[1]
He commenced his degree program in 1993 at Obafemi Awolowo University at Ile-Ife, Osun State, Nigeria, where he obtained a Diploma in Electronics in 1998. He furthered to National Defence University, Washington, D.C. where he obtained his Master’s of Science in Resource Strategy. He also obtained an Advanced Diploma in Strategic Security and Infrastructure Protection from the University of Lagos.[1]
Military career
Maj Gen Abubakar Adamu commenced officer cadet training on March 9, 1987 and was commissioned into the Nigerian Army Signals Corp as a Second Lieutenant on December 19, 1987. His initial assignment was to 31 Artillery Brigade as a Troop Commander 31 Artillery Signals Squadron. On completion of his assignment, he completed both the Young Officers Course Infantry and Young Officers Course Signals. He was promoted to the rank of Captain and reassigned to 31 Artillery Brigade Signals Squadron where he served as the Officer Commanding 31 Artillery Brigade Signals Squadron. Adamu performed the roles of Platoon Commander NIBATT 7 ECOMOG.[1]
He managed the day-to-day administration as Aide de Camp to the Military Administrator Yobe State. Adamu was assigned to 57 Signals Command where he served as the Admin Officer. In 2001 Adamu commenced staff training at Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji where he attained the title Pass Junior Staff Course. In 2000 he was nominated for Senior Staff Course at Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji where he also attained the title of Pass Senior Staff Course. Adamu attended Canadian Forces Language School, Montreal in 2010.[1]
In 2013 he proceeded to serve at Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre, Accra, Ghana. Two years later in 2016, he obtained certifications at National Defense University, the USA where he studied for one year from 2015 to 2016. He later became the Communication Officer NIBATT 14 UNAMSIL - United Nations Mission in Sierra Leone and later took over as the Officer Commanding Alpha Company NIBATT 14 UNAMSIL - United Nations Mission in Sierra Leone. At the Department of Army Standard Evaluation, he was the Staff officer Grade 2 Communication after which he was appointed as the Military Assistance to the Chief of Standard Evaluation.[1]
Adamu later became Grade 2 Staff Officer Administration 52 Division Signals after which he moved to the Army Headquarters of Administration as the Assistant Director Manpower Planning. On completion of his task, he was appointed Commanding Officer 510 Signal Regiment, Kaduna. He then proceeded to become the Operation Officer 1 Division Internal Security Task Force, Kaduna. Adamu was the Deputy Director Exercise, Army Headquarters Directorate of training and Operations where he also held a position as the Deputy Director Courses. Adamu was relieved to take a position as the Deputy Chief of Staff Grade 1 and later became the Acting Director of Telecommunications both at Army Headquarters Signals.[1]
He later became the Commander 51 Signals Brigade. Adamu was also the Director of the Nigerian Army Automated Data processing. He took over as the Acting Commander Nigerian Army Cyber Warfare Command on March 11, 2021. In 2022 Adamu was elevated to the rank of Major General[2] and appointed as the first Commander of the Nigerian Army Cyber Warfare Command at Abuja Nigeria.[1][3]

On September 1, Abubakar Adamu became Commander of Nigerian Army Cyber Warfare Command (NACWC). His mission was to protect the Nigerian Army from cyber threats and serve as an advising authority on cyber security for the Nigerian Army. As Commander Adamu ensured the development of capacity at the NACWC.[1][3]
Awards and Honours
Adamu holds several honors and awards, some of which include, Pass Staff College, First Service Star, Meritorious Service Star, General Service Star, Field Command Medal, Master of Science.[1]
Personal life
Adamu during his leisure loves listening to the news, horse riding and animal husbandry. Adamu is married to Hajiya Aisha and blessed with 3 daughters, Fadimatu, Nana Aisha and Sumayya.[1]
