From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Summary[edit]

The Accompanists' Guild of Queensland (Australia) is a non-profit organisation with the aim of recognising and fostering the art of accompaniment (also known as collaborative piano) through support of both established and emerging accompanists (also known as associate artists.

History[edit]

Establishment[edit]

With an accompanists' guild established in South Australia in 1983[1], piano accompanists in Queensland followed suit. The guild was formed in 1994, however, the Accompanists' Guild of Queensland was officially incorporated in 1995. The Guild adopted the Queensland state government's model rules for its Constitution.

On 31 August 2014, the Guild adopted a new Constitution which remains in place. A management committee is elected at the Annual General Meeting.[2]

According to the Constitution, "the objects of the association are:

  • To promote the status of the Associate Artist
  • To provide a contact point for pianists and other musical groups
  • To provide a forum in which to discuss matters of artistic and commercial relevance to the professional accompanist."[2]

Membership[edit]

  • Professional Membership – accompanists that are paid for their services.
  • Student Membership – accompanists aged under eighteen years or a full-time tertiary student.
  • Honorary Life Membership – determined by the committee.

Activities[edit]

The Accompanists’ Guild of Queensland awards prizes to student accompanists in competitions at Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University[3][4] and the School of Music at the University of Queensland.[5]
