Founded in 1984, Integrated Data Management Systems, Inc. (IDMS) specialized in the design of manufacturing system software for the toys and game industry. In addition to a customized inventory and MRP system, each installation included the standard accounting modules and an optional payroll module. The accountant for one of our customers at that time had asked if it would be possible to extract the W-2 and 1099-MISC print modules for use in his own practice. Happy to oblige, IDMS created a simple, yet powerful, W-2/1099 print utility and termed it Account Ability.

By the end of 1988, Account Ability had become very popular among accountants and small business. Its scope had been expanded to include information returns 1098, 1099-A, 1099-B, 1099-DIV, 1099-G, 1099-INT, 1099-MISC, 1099-OID, 1099-PATR, 1099-R, 1099-S, 5498, and W-2G. As the IRS broadened its family of information returns, IDMS broadened the scope of Account Ability. With the commercialization of The Internet in 1995, Account Ability evolved into Account Ability Tax Form Preparation Software (much more than a simple print utility) and IDMS into a market-leader and provider of 1094/1095 ACA, 1098, 1099, 5498, 6039, W-2, W-2C, and W-2G compliance software.
