Achaeos

Achaeos is an 87.7-metre Greek double-ended passenger and vehicle ferry built in 2006 by the Koutalis–Kostergias Shipyard in Perama. Powered by four Caterpillar engines with a symmetric drive-through design, she initially served the Igoumenitsa–Corfu line and briefly chartered in Italy for Blu Navy before joining Saronic Ferries, where she currently operates year-round services connecting Piraeus with Aegina and Agistri.

Service

The ferry, launched on 1 June 2006 by the Greek shipyards Dimitrios Koutalis with the name Achaeos and delivered on 17 July to 2wayferries, started service the following day on the routes between Piraeus and Aegina, where it operated until September of the same year. Subsequently, after a short period of lay-up, on 16 November 2006 it was transferred to the routes between Corfu and Igoumenitsa, where it joined its fleetmate Ano Chora II.

In February 2011 it was chartered to the Italian company BluNavy and, having set sail on 13 February from Piraeus for Italy, it arrived in Piombino on the 19th, after having made a technical stopover in Corfu on 16 February. On 24 February it started service on the connections between Piombino and Portoferraio as a replacement for the Primrose, where it operated until 15 February 2012.

After the charter on Elba, on 24 February 2012 she left the port of Piombino for Igoumenitsa, where she arrived two days later. In March she resumed service on the Corfu - Igoumenitsa line under the banner of 2wayferries. In 2013 it was disarmed in Keratsini.

On 14 February 2014, following the entry of 2wayferries into the Saronic Ferries joint venture, it returned to service after about 8 years on the connections between Piraeus, Aegina and Agistri, where it still operates today.
