The name "Achsar" was inspired by a character from a Russian folk tale.

The band is known for fusing sounds of folk instruments with melodic metal, death metal, black metal, and other genres. Before transitioning into melodic / folk metal, they released a few black/death/doom metal demos.

In 2014 they released full length Septentrionalis under label Gothoom productions.

In 2018, Achsar collaborated with Tuomas Rounakari of Korpiklaani (Shamanviolin) on their single "Loud and Proud." The collaboration continued when they joined Korpiklaani's "beer beer"[2] project (bonus disc of special tour edition of album Kulkija[3]), where Milan, one of the few metal singers from around the world, was asked to sing the song in Slovak language. The result was "PIVO PIVO"[4], a unique and memorable contribution to the project.

Achsar has also collaborated with singer Rob Lundgren (Powerdrive/Reveal/Mentalist) on their EP "In Battle I Was Born," where he recorded vocals for the song "The Last Warrior's Breath."

As one of the few bands to successfully blend folk instruments with various metal genres, Achsar has earned a dedicated following among fans of both metal and folk music[5]. Their unique sound, coupled with their collaborations with other prominent musicians in the industry, has helped them carve out a distinct place for themselves in the world of heavy metal.
