The Association for Computing Machinery focuses on role of computing in today's society Techopedia. The ACM is considered one of the world's largest computing professional bodies.[1] Within the ACM the ACM-W is the section of the body focused on supporting women in computing. This is one of many professional bodies that support increasing the number of women in computing [2]
The Association for Computing Machinery's Council on Women in Computing (ACM-W) supports, celebrates, and advocates internationally for the full engagement of women in all aspects of the computing field:[3]. The ACM-W works
The ACM Women Europe (ACM-W Europe) is a standing committee of ACM Europe and works to fulfil the mission of the ACM-W primarily within Europe. The ACM-W Europe vision is a transformed European professional and scholarly landscape where women are supported and inspired to pursue their dreams and ambitions to find fulfilment in the computing field.

Celebrations of Women in Computing
ACM-W sponsors annual celebrations focused on women in computing. The Celebrations in Europe can be broken down broadly into two headings. The first is the ACM Celebration of Women in Computing: womENcourage which is the flagship event for the ACM-W Europe. The second category is the regional celebrations.
The ACM Celebration of Women in Computing: womENcourage is held in a different country each year to encourage participation across Europe and from adjoining countries. The most recent womENcourage event was hosted by ADA University with 17 countries represented across 5 continents. The event was originally due to be held at the university but due to health concerns regarding the recent Coronavirus disease 2019 a decision was made to host the event as a virtual event.

ACM-W has nearly 200 active chapters at schools around the world with 16 ACM-W chapters served by the ACM-W Europe[12]. The student chapters serve to increase recruitment and retention of women in computing fields at the university level and offer student activities and projects that aim to improve the working and learning environments for women in computing.
Awards
Starting in 2006[13], ACM-W has offered an annual Athena Lecturer Award to honor outstanding women researchers who have made fundamental contributions to computer science.
ACM-W also offers an ACM-W Networking Award for active student chapters.
Newsletter
ACM-W Europe publishes a monthly newsletter[14] that highlights people, opportunities, accomplishments, and current issues associated with women in computing. The newsletter includes contributions from attendees at our flagship event the ACM Celebration of Women in Computing: womENcourage.
