Acrobatic Gymnastics World Championships
The Acrobatic Gymnastics World Championships are the world championships for the sport of acrobatic gymnastics. They are organized by the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) and are considered the premier event for the discipline. The championships bring together the world's best acrobatic gymnasts to compete for world titles in various categories.
History
The World Championships were first held in **1974 in Moscow**, at a time when the sport was known as "Sport Acrobatics." The inaugural event was organized by the International Federation of Sports Acrobatics (IFSA), which was founded in 1973. In 1998, the IFSA was dissolved, and the sport was integrated into the FIG, which continues to govern the championships. The name of the sport was officially changed to "Acrobatic Gymnastics" in 2007.
The championships are held biennially, typically in even-numbered years.
