Adam Blumenthal

Adam Blumenthal is an American businessman and private equity firm executive. He is the founder and Managing Partner of Blue Wolf Capital Partners, a private equity firm in New York City that manages $1.2 billion in capital.[1][2]

Early life and education[edit]

Adam Blumenthal attended Harvard College and received his M.B.A from Yale School of Management in 1989.[3]

Career[edit]

In 1989 Blumenthal joined American Capital, where he helped build a portfolio of more than $1 billion and invested in 63 middle-market companies. After leaving American Capital in 2002, Blumenthal served in the New York City Comptroller’s office as chief financial officer. In that role, he managed the city’s pension funds and raised the pension assets from $65 billion to $85 billion while improving the risk management structures.[4][5][6][7]

Blumenthal is currently managing director of Blue Wolf Capital Partners, a mid-size private equity firm that was founded in 2005.[8] He also serves on the board of directors of the following Blue Wolf portfolio companies: Channel Technologies Group LLC., Finch Paper Holdings LLC, Gloucester Engineering Co., Inc., Pharmaceutical Strategies Group LLC, Suwannee Lumber Co. and Twin Rivers Paper Company.[6][9][10]

Boards and Philanthropy[edit]

From 2004 to 2007, he served on the Yale School of Management's Board of Advisors. In 2009, he was named a Donaldson Fellow at SOM. He is also Chairman of the investment committee of the United Auto Workers VEBA, a $55 billion fund that pays retiree health benefits for UAW employees of Ford, Chrysler and General Motors. He has been a trustee of, and chairman of the investment committee of, the Nathan Cummings Foundation and the Community Service Society of New York.[4][5][11]

Blumenthal has also helped fund the Adam Blumenthal Fellowship at the Rutgers University School of Management and Labor Relations. The Fellowship was developed as a research fellowship to encourage studies of broad-based employee stock ownership and profit sharing in the United States.[12]
