Adam Crigler

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Adam Eric Crigler (born March 7, 1984) is an American musician, skateboarder, YouTube personality and model.  Crigler began his career as a model, booking his first major campaign with Abercrombie & Fitch in 2002.  Crigler began writing music in 2005 and in 2009, found a new love in skateboarding. A year later, Crigler emerged as a prominent figure in the New York skateboarding community and would go on to found his own skate school.  In 2015, Crigler’s skateboarding career coincidentally landed him back in the modeling world when Chanel booked him for their 2016 summer campaign involving a downhill stakeboarder.  In February, 2020, Crigler began cohosting Timcastirl, a news program hosted by Tim Pool on his YouTube Channel.  In August, 2020, Crigler left Timcastirl to start his own channel, Adamcastirl.

Early life[edit]

Adam Eric Crigler was born on March 7th, 1984, in Chicago, Illinois.  He spent his childhood in the Downtown Chicago area and the Prospect Heights, Arlington Heights area.  When he was thirteen, Crigler and his mother moved to Elkins Park, just miles north of downtown Philadelphia.  Crigler attended high school before returning to Chicago at age seventeen.

Modeling[edit]

Crigler began his modeling career at the age of eighteen after booking an Abercrombie and Fitch campaign.  The campaign included model turned actors Malin Akerman and Jaime Dornan and continues to receive attention decades later.[1] In 2003, Crigler moved to New York City to further his career.  He spent the next three years splitting time between New York, Milan, Italy and Paris, France, working numerous campaigns for Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, American Eagle, Converse and others.[2]  By 2005, Crigler’s interest in modeling began to wane as he turned his focus toward family and his growing passion for music.  He worked a few odd jobs during this period, splitting his time between Chicago and Tucson, Arizona before returning to New York.  Crigler took modeling jobs intermittently over the next five years as his music and skateboarding careers began to flourish. Crigler’s reputation as a skateboarder caught the attention of Chanel and at the end of 2015, they booked him to be a part of their 2016 summer campaign, which involved a storyline featuring a downhill skateboarder.[3]  Despite international exposure, Crigler stepped away from modeling again to focus on his burgeoning romance with current wife, Nishra Almen.

Music[edit]

Crigler had always been a fan of music growing up but it wasn't until 2005 that he began playing guitar and writing his own songs.  By the following year, Crigler was playing shows at bars throughout New York City, most notably at CBGB right before it closed in October 2006.[citation needed]  Crigler’s travels over the next few years provided ample time to indulge the creative process and he returned to New York in 2009 to perform at the Brooklyn Folk Festival.[citation needed]  Crigler has written numerous songs over the past decade, many of which he performs on his YouTube channel Adamcastirl. He enjoys playing Martin acoustic guitars and cites Led Zeppelin, Sublime and Pearl Jam as his major influences.

Skateboarding[edit]

After relocating to New York City in 2009, Crigler began longboarding.  He started working for Bustin Boards Company, printing small batch skateboard decks and improving his skills as a rider.  Bustin took notice of Crigler’s abilities and sponsored him soon after.[4]

In 2010, Crigler won an annual race known as the Broadway Bomb but not without controversy; Crigler employed the act of skitching during the race and received a disqualification at the finish line even though there was no rule in place against this act. Crigler contested the result, and, while the Broadway Bomb Wikipedia page acknowledges Mark Schaperow as the official winner after the introduction of the skitching rule, they also continue to list Crigler as the 2010 Men’s winner.[5]

In 2011, Crigler became sponsored by Arbor Collective, becoming their only rider based on the east coast at the time.[6]  He soon began work on custom designs for the Catalyst series and producing videos while developing Sure Skateboards, a New York based skate school that he founded in 2012.[4]  In 2015, Crigler relocated to Venice, California to work at the Arbor flagship store.[7]  He met wife Nishra Almen during this time; she was shopping for a board at the store one day when Adam took notice of her and the rest is history.  Crigler and Almen traveled around for a while before Adam’s skateboarding career landed him back in the modeling world.  In December 2015, Chanel flew Crigler to South Africa to be featured in the company’s 2016 summer campaign, a concept that involved a downhill skateboarder.[3]  Crigler’s pedigree made him a perfect fit for the role.  Upon returning to the states, Crigler stepped away from skateboarding to travel and focus on musical collaborations with Almen and a project with Tim Pool.

Timcastirl and Adamcastirl[edit]

In 2016, Crigler and Almen settled near Miami, Florida to work with Tim Pool on his YouTube channel. They left six months later after the project failed to materialize.  In January 2020, Pool reached out to Crigler to be a guest on Timcastirl.  Crigler picked up cohosting duties after the positive response Timcastirl received to Crigler and Pool’s contrasting personalities on the show.[8] Crigler also went through a very public political transition on the show, abandoning his democratic routes and voicing his support for President Trump.[9]  In August 2020, Crigler left Timcastirl to start his own YouTube channel, Adamcastirl.[10]
