Adam Kowalik

Adam Kowalik (born in 24 December 1961 in Miedzno, Poland) is a Polish Roman Catholic priest.

Biography[edit]

Kowalik studied philosophy in Kraków in the 1981–1982 years and Theology in Warsaw in the 1984–1988 years. He received priestly ordination on May 6, 1989 in Seminary of Palotine Fathers (Society of the Catholic Apostolate - SAC) in Oltarzew (Warsaw). In 1990 Kowalik traveled as a missionary to Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), established himself as Parochial Vicar of the Parish of San Roque in Rio de Janeiro (city). In 1991 he was appointed first rector of the Major Pallotine Seminary in Rio de Janeiro. From 1991 to 1994 Adam Kowalik was Spiritual Director of the Major Seminary of Roman Catholic Archdiocese of São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro. In 1994 he did his Masters in Canon Law at the Pontifical Superior Institute of Canon Law in Rio de Janeiro. In 1997 Kowalik did his International Familiar Law Doctorate at the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross in Rome, and at the same year studied at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. From 1998 to 2006 he was Pastor of the Parish Nossa Senhora dos Navegantes in Rio de Janeiro. From 1998 to 2000 Kowalik became Defensor of the Bond and Promoter of Justice in the Ecclesiastical Court in Rio de Janeiro. In 2000 he was appointed Judge of the Ecclesiastical Tribunal of the Archdiocese of Rio de Janeiro.[1] From 2006 to 2008 was named Pastor of Our Lady of Fatima Parish in Rio de Janeiro.[2] From 2008 Kowalik was appointed chaplain of the Brotherhood of Our Lady Mother of Men in Rio de Janeiro - Centro. In the years 1999-2003 he was Professor of Family Law and from 2005 Professor of Public Law at the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Superior Institute of Canon Law in Rio de Janeiro.[3] Adam Kowalik was also professor of canon law in the Major Seminaries of Archdiocese of Rio de Janeiro and Niterói and Professor of canon law at the Institute of Religious sciences in Rio de Janeiro. In 2005 he was member of the Latin American Consortium for Religious Freedom.[4] In 2007 Kowalik was member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Canonical Law and was also a member of Editorial Board of the Panopticon - Electronic Journal of Academic Law.[3][5] From 2007 to 2008 he was appointed Judge of the Ecclesiastical Tribunal of the Archdiocese of Niterói. In 2008 he became member of the International Consortium for Law and Religious Freedom.[6]

Awards[edit]

On 29 November 2004 Kowalik received the diploma "Motion" of the Municipality of Rio de Janeiro for social work in the Complexo da Maré in Rio de Janeiro, made in the years 1998-2004.[14] On 10 July 2006 received the title "Paul Harris Fellow" in recognition of the provision of tangible and significant services with the aim of promoting understanding and friendly relations among peoples of the world offered by the Rotary Foundation of Rotary Internacional.[15]
