Adam Road Presbyterian Church
Adam Road Presbyterian Church is a Presbyterian Reformed church, under the Presbyterian Church in Singapore (PCS).[1] It is located at 25 Adam Road, Singapore 289894 in the island nation of Singapore, within walking distance of Botanic Gardens MRT station. It is currently led by Reverend Dr. Christopher Chia, who has been Pastor-in-Charge (PIC) since 1994. His team of pastors include Associate Minister Edmund Fong, Associate Minister Adrin Muñoz, Associate Minister Jeffrey Quek, Associate Minister Roger Chia and Associate Minister Joe Heng.[2]
History[edit]
Adam Road Presbyterian Church was birthed from the merger of 2 outreach ministries originating from Prinsep Street Presbyterian Church, in 1991.[3] With an initial congregation of 120 people, church services were conducted at 77 Prinsep Street, led by Pastor Christopher Chia. In 1994, the founding pastor of Adam Road Presbyterian Church (ARPC), Rev. Chris Chia, was ordained, and the congregation moved to its new premises at 25 Adam Road.[4] In 1997, Prinsep Street Presbyterian Church recognized ARPC as an independent congregation. Over time, ARPC's membership grew and the building at Adam Road was unable to accommodate 4 services a week. Hence, the decision was made to move to Kuo Chuan Presbyterian Secondary School[5] in 2006, while the church building at 25 Adam Road was renovated. Then in 2009, services resumed at Adam Road, which included the Mandarin Ministry gatherings. In 2014, ARPC started worshipping as one church in two locations, ARPC@Adam[6] and ARPC@Bishan.
Church focus[edit]
As part of its aim to become a truly inter-generational church, ARPC has embarked on two initiatives since 2018.
LIFEPaths triple learning[edit]
The community within ARPC has been embracing believers from all seasons of life, be it children, youth, adults or seniors. With the triple learning approach, adults, children's church and the youth group study the same Bible books to grow unitedly as a church family.[7]
Multiply and minister[edit]
The church firmly believes that believers should be given a spiritual home to love and grow together in small groups, which are known as Discipleship Groups. Four to six of these groups embark on the multiply and minister program each year, whereby the original group will be reconstituted to form two or three new groups.[8]
Weekend services[edit]
Adam Road Presbyterian Church holds 3 main English services on both Saturday and Sunday at ARPC@Adam. There are also 2 English services on Sunday at ARPC@Bishan, in addition to a Mandarin service.[9] All services involve lay participation. Apart from English and Mandarin services, ARPC is also home to the Korean Dream church in Singapore, which meets on Sundays at 25 Adam Road.
