Adam Vincent Wright is an American filmmaker, writer, and director originally from Rimersburg, Pennsylvania. Adam is best known for his short films Welcome to the Ball (2019)[1], Timmy Slays the Talent Show (2018)[2], and An Undocumented Salvation (2017)[3]. Adam is also known for identifying as sansgender and uses they/them pronouns.

Early Life & Education[edit]

Adam grew up in the rural town of Rimersburg, Pennsylvania. Their mother, Cheryl Wright, is a personal care aid to patients with developmental disabilities and their father, Adam Vickers, Sr., was a drug addict who passed away in 2011 at the age of 44. [4] Adam Sr. was absent most of Adam's life causing them to assume their mothers maiden name. In speaking about their father Adam states "I hold no animosity toward my father. He struggled with addiction his entire life and, unfortunately, that meant we never really got to know other." Adam says they did not meet another queer person until going to college at the age of 18. The loneliness they felt growing up as a child inspired their short film Welcome to the Ball.

Career[edit]

Adam studied Acting (BA) at Susquehanna University and Theatre Education (MA) at Emerson College. They moved to Los Angeles in 2016 initially to pursue acting. Adam quickly landed an agent and booked the their first audition, a lead detective in an episode of Betrayed on the Investigation Discovery Network. [5] Adam found the project to be unfulfilling and decided to begin producing their own content focused on social change. They created the independent production company Films for a New World which has produced three short films, most notably Welcome to the Ball (2019). Welcome to the Ball stars Nemis Quinn Mélançon-Golden, better known as child drag queen Lactatia, [6] in his debut film role. [7] The film premiered in March 2019 at the Queens World Film Festival winning Best Short Short [8] The film has since been accepted to over 50 films festivals all over the world including notable festivals such as the Cleveland International Film Festival[9], Palm Springs Shortfest [10], RiverRun International Film Festival [11], Outfest [12], and Flickers Rhode Island International Film Festival. The film is Oscar-qualified to compete for a nomination in the Live-Action Short Film Category for the 2020 Academy Awards.

In 2019, Adam announced the development of their first feature film titled The Last Dance of Sissy Dubois. The film is a musical and will feature a transgender actress in the lead role.[13]

Personal Life[edit]

Adam identifies as sansgender believing the concept of gender has been detrimental to society. In speaking at the 2019 RiverRun Film Festival, Adam noted "There's no doubt we're created differently, some of us have a penis, some of us have a vagina, some are intersex. As a society, however, we can decide how much emphasis we place on these differences. It's my opinion that we've put too much focus on these differences with the concept of gender and the requirement to publicly identify. We're in an important time where we all must stand with all transgender humans and demand equal rights. It's my hope for the future, however, that more people will refuse to subscribe to gender containers and their use will be phased out. It's allowed for so much discrimination, pain, and death and the world will be better off without it. I have no doubt this will eventually happen." Adam lives with Cristopher, their partner of over 10 years.
