Adam Wehsely-Swiczinsky
Adam Wehsely-Swiczinsky (born June 25, 1971 in Vienna) is an Austrian industrial designer, luthier and musician.
Life
Adam Wehsely-Swiczinsky is the son of Austrian architect Helmut Swiczinsky and his wife Hilda. His siblings are the Austrian animation filmmaker and illustrator Nana Swiczinsky and the Austrian animation film director Benjamin Swiczinsky. Adam Wehsely-Swiczinsky is married to the Austrian manager Tanja Wehsely and has one son.
Education
After graduating from highschool in BGR II Vereinnsgasse Adam Wehsely-Swiczinsky worked as a self-taught luthier, musician and carpenter between 1990 and 1994. In 1991, at the age of 20, Adam Wehsely-Swiczinsky went to the USA, learning to make guitars in Los Angeles. He was supported in this endeavor by luthiers Big Jim and John Carruthers.[1] In 1999, Adam Wehsely-Swiczinsky passed the external final examination for his carpentry apprenticeship. From 1994 to 2000, he studied industrial design at the University of Applied Arts Vienna, Austria. In 2000, he graduated with honors as Master of Arts. After several years of preparation with helpful reviews from luthiers Nupi Jenner[2] and Martin Rainer[3], he completed his external training as a luthier at the HTBLA Hallstatt as a master craftsman in 2017.

Guitar making
Since 2000 Adam Wehsely-Swiczinsky has been running his MADA Guitars (Adam in reverse) workshop in Vienna's second district. He specialized in the sustainable construction of acoustic, semi-acoustic and electric guitars, basses and special instruments made from hemp cellulose and local woods from the city of Vienna and surrounding areas.[8] [9] In 2007, Adam Wehsely-Swiczinsky and master luthier Andreas Neubauer developed the world‘s first hemp guitar concept into the semi-acoustic construction of the “MADA Caimes” guitar model, which was played by 2007 on Times Square in New York[10] by Willie Nelson. The Caimes model has been included in the collection of the Museum of Applied Arts, Vienna. [11]
Industrial Design
After graduating, he founded the industrial design studio AWS Designteam [12]. Wehsely-Swiczinsky is spacialized on designing healthcare and sports products, close to the human body. From 2000 to 2003, Wehsely-Swiczinsky was head of the design department for ski bindings at TYROLIA[13] Head_(company). By 2025, about 10 million of the ski bindings that the designer created for the ski binding manufacturer Tyrolia had been sold, worldwide. The designs that he created with AWS Designteam have been awarded with numerous design awards. [14] [15] His designs have been exhibited at exhibitions like “PAD goes international” presentations in New York, Tokyo, London and Barcelona, at Design Match in Progue, at Palermo Design Week, at the Vienna Design Week, and in the Museum of Applied Arts, Vienna.
