Lanthony election dispute
In March 1324 William of Penbury, the prior of Lanthony Secunda, was forced to resign under pressure from Edward II and a new election was ordered. These elections were contentious and the priory divided between Robert of Gloucester, a canon who supported the king, and Walter of Longeney who may have been a proxy for William and was the cellarer in 1302.[1]: Script error: The function "hyphen2dash" does not exist., [415] [2]: Script error: The function "hyphen2dash" does not exist. On 28 May 1324 the office of prior remained vacant, and Edward II was informed that the priory's possessions were being wasted. On 14 July, the king approved the appointment of Robert of Gloucester, but he was never installed and Adam and the subprior remained in charge. On 20 August, the king revoked Adam's appointment, with no reason given. The subprior remained in charge until sometime between 4 August and 18 October 1325, when William of Penbury was reinstated.[2]: Script error: The function "hyphen2dash" does not exist.
