Adat is based on sharia

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Adat is based on sharia (Minangkabau: Adaik basandi syarak; Indonesian: Adat yang bersendikan syariat) is one of the main principles governing Minangkabau customs.[1] This principle was born after the Padri War through an agreement known as the "Oath of loyalty" (Sumpah setia) on Marapalam Hill which was agreed upon by tigo tungku sajarangan, the three elements of traditional power holders in Minangkabau society: niniak mamak (traditional leaders), alim ulama (religious leader), and cadiak pandai (intellectual).

Adat is based on sharia stipulates that all customs used by the Minangkabau people must be based to Islamic law, which in turn is based on the Koran and the Sunnah (syarak basandi Kitabullah). A more complete version of this doctrine also contains the historical fact that Islam arrived in the Minangkabau region by sea and met the influence of adat in the highlands (syarak mandaki adaik manurun).[2][3]
