Adebayo Damilare
Adebayo Damilare (born February 14, 2000) is a Nigerian filmmaker, screenwriter, and director. He is the founder of Modernstar Films, a production company known for producing high-scale Yoruba-language and pan-African cinema. Damilare gained national attention for his work on the 2024 historical epic APAARA (The Outcast), which featured over 600 Nollywood actors and was hailed as the first major indigenous cinematographic project from Ondo State, Nigeria.[1][2]
Career
Damilare began his career as an independent filmmaker, writing and directing films rooted in Yoruba mythology, political themes, and social commentary. His early works include IRIRA, Are (The Stranger), Adigun Esu, and Castigo, all of which explored traditional belief systems and contemporary struggles in Nigerian society.
In 2024, he produced APAARA (The Outcast), a cultural epic that brought together over 600 actors including Ibrahim Chatta and other leading Nollywood stars.[3][4] The film was widely covered by Nigerian media and recognized for its cultural depth and production scale.[5][6]
He also directed and produced AJITU (The Hidden Peril), a dramatic film blending folklore with modern storytelling.
He is the founder and CEO of Modernstar Films, a company focused on elevating indigenous African stories for global audiences.[7]
