Early life and education
Adekunle Alaye was born on 7 April 1976. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Political Science from Ogun State University (now Olabisi Onabanjo University) in Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, Nigeria. He later obtained a Master of Arts (M.A.) in World and Diplomatic Studies (International Political Economy) from Brandenburg University in Cottbus, Germany, in 2014.
He further pursued advanced studies, earning a Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Political Science (Political Economy Theory) from Lagos State University, Nigeria.
Academic and professional career
Alaye is a Fellow of the Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa (CODESRIA), Dakar, Senegal, and a Fellow of STUBE Berlin-Brandenburg, Berlin, Germany. He became a member of the Editorial Board of the European Centre for Research Training and Development, United Kingdom, in August 2024, a position he continues to hold.
He has presented research at local and international conferences, including:
- Swiss Scholarship Conference (Zurich, Switzerland, 2004) – Paper on African scholars in Europe.
- STUBE Conference (Berlin, Germany, 2013) – Globalization and the Third World Countries.

During his university years, Alaye was an activist and student union leader. He made history as the first undergraduate Political Science student at Ogun State University to be elected Welfare Officer of the Ogun State University Students' Union.
