Adel Anwar al-Olabi (Arabic: عادل أنور العلبي) is a Syrian businessman, politician and journalist, current governor of Damascus. [1][2]
Biography[edit]
Al-Olabi was born into a Sunni family in Damascus in 1976. He holds an bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and a master's degree in economic and social planning. Al-Olabi was appointed a member of the Damascus Provincial Council, then deputy governor and president of the Damascus Provincial Council in 2012. He also held the position of Director of Printing Press in Al-Baath. He is a member of the Central Conference of the Syndicate of Engineers, and the head of the Department of Operating the Home Equipment. He is considered one of most prominent young elements in the ruling Ba'ath Party.
He was elected in 2018 to become Mayor of Damascus City.
Business activities[edit]
Adel al-Olabi co-founded the Damascus Cham Holding Company as a private company with a capital of 60 billion Syrian pounds in December 2016; Al-Olabi was appointed as Vice Chairman of its Board of Directors, knowing that it includes many companies, most notably: Aman Damascus Company, Marota Mall Company, Rawafed Damascus Company, Mirza Damascus Company, Bunyan Damascus Company, Damascus Developers Company and SDS Informatics Company. Previous companies are all property of Rami Makhlouf, Samer Foz, Mazen Tarazi and other wealthy businessmen close to the regime. Al-Olabi became chairman of the Damascus Cham Holding Company in 2018.[3]
