Biography
Adele Pickvance moved from Bury, Greater Manchester to Brisbane, Australia in the early 80s and settled into the music life of Brisbane starting with playing bass in her father's band[1], gigging in clubs and RSLs during her studies. After her studies, she embraced the indie-Brisbane music scene, playing in numerous bands. It was the mid 90's when Adele commenced her long musical comradery and journey with Robert Forster (musician) and Grant McLennan, recording demos and playing shows.
In 1995, together with Robert Forster and Glenn Thompson (musician), Pickvance had formed a three-piece group, Warm Nights.[2][3] Late that year Forster and McLennan performed together in Brisbane and the duo were accompanied by Pickvance and Thompson.[4][5]
In 2000, The Go-Betweens reformed with Pickvance and released a studio album intitled The Friends of Rachel Worth.[6] Janet Weiss (Sleater-Kinney, Quasi) was on drums and backing vocals while Sam Coomes (Quasi) was on keyboards.[7][8][9] The string arrangement was created by Karin Bäumler and the production organized by Forster, Coomes, Weiss, and McLennan.[10] Allmusic's Hal Horowitz acknowledged their "[p]oetic, languid, spoken/sung vocals similar to Lou Reed weave between lovely melodies whose appeal unfolds with repeated listens";[11] even if it "sounds more like a combination of two solo albums rather than one from a cohesive unit".
The Go-Betweens formed by McLennan, Forster, Pickvance and Thompson (since 2001) released two studio albums, Bright Yellow Bright Orange (2003) and Oceans Apart (2005) (winning an ARIA Award)[12][13]
Apart from The Go-Betweens, Adele has toured and recorded 4 albums with The Dave Graney Show and toured and recorded with Clare Moore, Billy Miller (musician) from The Ferrets (band), The Far Out Corporation (FOC (album)), Scott Spark, Ranger and The Mumps.[14]
In 2012, Adele and Glenn Thompson (musician) from Custard (band) who were the rhythm section of The Go-Betweens, released Carrington Street under the name of Adele&Glenn. It was picked up by German record label Glitterhouse Records. All are further highlights from a dynamic creative life. The album was regarded as a pop classic by European press.
Adele joined Forster’s album The Evangelist in which Grant McLennan’s last songs were included (he died in 2006)[15]
Since 2018, Adele leads the band Adele and the Chandeliers, with Scott Mercer (guitar) and Ash Shanahan (drums). Their first single will be released in November 2019.[16]
