From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Adelle Coster is an Australian applied mathematician. She is affiliated with the University of New South Wales (UNSW) and is known for mathematical modelling of biological and physiological systems.

Research

Coster has worked on mathematical modelling of cardiac electrophysiology and heart rhythms. Plus Magazine described her work developing mathematical descriptions of how the heart beats, including modelling how regions of the heart communicate and investigating patterns of activity that may indicate the onset of arrhythmias.[1]

Outreach and public engagement

Coster has been involved in outreach initiatives encouraging girls to consider mathematics-based study and careers. UNSW reported that she helped conceive the Girls Do the Maths program with colleagues and has been involved in its public promotion and activities.[2]

In 2021, The Australian reported on Coster's role in relation to the Girls Do the Maths initiative and its engagement with industry and financial services pathways.[3]

Professional service

Coster served as a committee member of the Mathematical Biology Special Interest Group (MBSIG) of the Australian and New Zealand Industrial and Applied Mathematics (ANZIAM) society during the 2015–2016 committee term.[4]

Awards and recognition

In 2015, Coster received the Anne Penfold Street Award from the Women in Mathematics Special Interest Group (WIMSIG) of the Australian Mathematical Society (AustMS).[5]
