Adeniji Kazeem, SAN (born 1965) is a Nigerian lawyer who is currently the Attorney General of Lagos State


Biography[edit]

Early Life & Family[edit]

Adeniji Kazeem was born on 19th April 1965 to Late Honourable Justice Boonyamin Oladiran Kazeem a former Solicitor General of the Federation and Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria and Princess Jemilat Adetoun Kazeem and is the grandson of the late Oba Adeniji Adele of Lagos.

Education[edit]

Adeniji attended St Saviours Primary School, Railway Compound, Ebute Metta,[1] Lagos for his primary education. In 1976, he proceeded to Federal Government College Warri, Delta State [2] for his O’levels and thereafter Federal Government College Ijanikin, Lagos for his A’levels.

In 1983 he was admitted to the University of Lagos and graduated with honours in 1986 with a 2nd class Upper degree in Political science. He performed the mandatory Youth Service programme as a Research Assistant with the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs. In 1987, he returned to the University of Lagos and graduated with honours in 1990 with a 2nd class Upper Law degree.

Mr. Adeniji Kazeem also holds a Masters of Law degree in Information Technology and Telecommunications Law from the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland and is a Notary Public of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Adeniji Kazeem started his professional career as a Consultant with the International Consulting and Accounting Firm, of Arthur Andersen (now KPMG Professional Services) as a staff of the Tax and Regulatory services division of the Firm. After five years with the Firm he voluntarily resigned in 1996 and established the Law Firm of Adeniji Kazeem & Co.

At the Bar[edit]

Adeniji Kazeem was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1991 and enrolled as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria. He became a member of the Inner Bar and was Sworn in as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) on 24/9/2018.[3],[4] He is a member of the Body of Benchers of Nigeria, and a Notary Public for Nigeria.

Attorney General & Commissioner for Justice, Lagos State (2015– Present)[edit]

Adeniji Kazeem is the current Attorney General & Commissioner for Justice, Lagos State. He was appointed by Lagos State Governor Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode ,He was among the commissioners swore-in In October 2015.[5],[6]

As the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice he has used Technology to revolutionize the Justice delivery and access to Justice system in Lagos State. He introduced the first Online access to the Laws of Lagos[7] He also set up the first DNA & Forensic Center in West Africa for DNA analysis to support law enforcement, Criminal investigations and human identification [8] Adeniji Kazeem while in office initiated the clamp down on Land Grabbers through the Lagos State Special Task force on Land grabbers which derived it powers from the Property Protection Law[9]

Adeniji also reintroduced and remodeled the Lagos State Criminal Information System, a platform to enhance and improve service delivery and access to information in the criminal justice system.[10],[11]

Adeniji is married to a Lawyer Ronke and is blessed with children.
