Political career[edit]
Aditi Bussells defeated Tyler Bailey in a runoff election, 54-46%, or 1,495 total votes for the open seat vacated by Tameika Devine, who was running for mayor.[5] Prior to the runoff, Aditi received the most votes out of 7 candidates, but did not receive the required 50% which resulted in a runoff. City council seats are non-partisan. Aditi is seen as an independent voice or "wild card" with backing from both prominent Democrats and Republicans during her election.[2] The South Carolina Democratic Party officially congratulated her when she won. In 2022, Aditi was voted 'Best Local Politician' by readers of the Post and Courier Free Times. [6]
