Adobe Systems’ typography division is an innovator in font technology and design. Adobe was a forerunner in the development of PostScript Type 1 and Type 3 font formats and OpenType technology and is an established digital type foundry.

Adobe Type components[edit]

  • Font Development Kit for OpenType (also known as Adobe FDKO or simply AFDKO) is a font development kit (FDK), a set of command-line tools freely distributed by Adobe for editing and verifying OpenType fonts.
  • Font Folio is a collection of more than 2,400 OpenType fonts, designed by several renowned type foundries. As of early 2005, there were around 10,000 fonts available in OpenType format. Adobe's font library makes up under a third of the total, all of which are included in Font Folio.
  • Fonts (formerly Typekit) is an online service which offers a subscription library of fonts.The fonts may be used directly on websites or synced via Adobe Creative Cloud to applications on the subscriber's computers.
  • Type Manager (ATM) was the name of a family of computer programs created and marketed by Adobe Systems for use with their PostScript Type 1 fonts. The last release was Adobe ATM Light 4.1.2, per Adobe's FTP (at the time).
