Adolfo Armanet Vergara (17 December 1848 – 3 April 1912) was a Chilean lawyer, farmer, educator and politician affiliated with the National Party. He served as a member of the Chamber of Deputies for Santiago from 1909 until his death in 1912 and was president of the Chamber between 1911 and 1912.[1]
Biography
Armanet was born in San Javier de Loncomilla on 17 December 1848, the son of Francisco Armanet Gerard and Pilar Vergara Albano. He married Adela Fresno Marcoleta, with whom he had three children.[1]
He studied at the Liceo de Talca and subsequently at the Faculty of Law of the University of Chile. He was admitted to the bar on 30 December 1870.[1]
Alongside his legal career, Armanet worked as a farmer and educator. He taught literature at the Liceo de Talca for more than 25 years and served as its rector from 1886 to 1890. He also served for ten years as secretary of the Intendancy of Talca and was a substitute judge of the Court of Appeals.[1]
Political career
A member of the National Party, Armanet was initially elected as a presumptive deputy for Linares, Parral and Loncomilla for the 1903–1906 legislative period. He left the seat on 30 September 1903 after Aníbal Letelier assumed office.[1]
Armanet returned to the Chamber after being elected deputy for Santiago for the 1909–1912 legislative period. He served as a substitute member of the Government and Colonization Committee and the Education and Charity Committee, and as a full member of the Legislation and Justice Committee. He also served on the Conservative Committee during the 1909–1910 parliamentary recess.[1]
On 7 August 1911, Armanet was elected president of the Chamber of Deputies. He remained in the position until 28 March 1912.[1]
Armanet died in San Javier de Loncomilla on 3 April 1912, shortly before the end of his parliamentary term.[1]
