Adria Ferries is a Joint stock company established in 2004 with its main office in Ancona, Italy to exploit the maritime transport sector in the Adriatic sea. It ensures connections between the Italian ports of Ancona, Bari and Trieste and the Albanian port of Durres.
Adria Ferries continues the operation of a historical link between Rome and Byzantium by way of the Via Appia Traiana that is continued by the Via Egnatia.[1]
The private ferry line was born from the ashes of an Italian state-owned entity which had folded amidst client dissatisfaction because the operator had ossified into an employee-focused organisation.[1]
The largest ferry in Adriatic waters is operated by Adria Ferries. The MV Aurelia plies its trade between Bari and Durres (it: Durazzo). It can transport up to 2280 passengers in 1000 beds and 460 seats. Its 11 decks are served by escalators and elevators. All its cabins have toilets and showers. Its has capacity for up to 650 cars.[2]
As of July 2014, Adria Ferries has a partnership with Trenitalia wherein tickets can be booked at any train station for onward journey to Durres, at a steeply discounted price with respect to both tickets separately purchased. This is for connections either in Ancona or in Trieste.[2]
