Adrian Keating (born 12 October 1962) in Sydney New South Wales, Australia) is a career Violinist with Opera Australia's Opera Australia Orchestra (1987 - 2020)

"Adrian Keating has worked with the Orchestra for over thirty years, performing the roles of Guest Concertmaster, Acting Deputy Concertmaster and Acting Principal of the 2nd Violins. Adrian held the position of Principal 1st Violinist" [1](1989 - 2015)

Keating has performed over 100 Operas, & 100 Ballet productions with the Opera Australia Orchestra. Almost all performances take place in the Sydney Opera House orchestra pit.

Keating attended the Sydney Conservatorium of Music High School, and the University Diploma/Bachelor course offered there. [2]

Keating's training included performing as a student with the Sydney Youth Orchestra 1976–82 & 1984–85 & was co-leader, & leader of the orchestra during Richard Gill's tenure as Conductor of the flagship orchestra 1979-81, also performing Scheherezade conducted by John Harding (violinist), & performing with the Australian Youth Orchestra 1980 - 1984 [3]

Work in Contemporary and Independant Music[edit]

An exponent in contemporary music (Independent music, Blues, Rhythm and blues, Funk music, Soul music) Adrian has appeared as a session musician for Australian contemporary artists, either as soloist, or leader & musicians contractor;

'Live at the Big Cahuna' with Kevin Borich; collaborated with Geoff Achison on their '"Classically Blue"' project, creating the albums 'Classically Blue', 'You Get That' & the DVD/CD package 'Classically Blue Live at the Basement', [4] and on Achison's 'Chasin' My Tail' album; Purity of Essence (Hoodoo Gurus album), Dress Me Slowly & Hourly Daily - You Am I albums; 'Faith Lift' album by Harry Manx; Jackie Orszaczky 'Deep Down & Out' album; Grinspoon 'Chemical Heart' from their 'New Detention' album; Ian Cooper's album 'Strings of Swing'; [5] Double Happiness (album) and the DVD The MAX Sessions: Live at the Sydney Opera House with Jimmy Barnes [6]; [7]

Work as Electric Violinist[edit]

Keating began playing electric violin in 1982, & has performed on the Voice Australia 2013 with Ricky Martin [8] performing Roxanne.

Keating has performed in the "CCEntertainment" productions [9] of their Led Zeppelin homage titled Whole Lotta Love (2001 - 2015), initially writing string arrangements for 5 tracks in 2001. In these performances Keating played a solo in the 'break-down' section of Kashmir using a Boss Corporation guitar effects processor, a 'GT-7'.[10]

the Sydney Lyric Orchestra[edit]

Keating directs the "Sydney Lyric Orchestra" which has performed for two seasons of the Paris Opera Ballet in Sydney, Australia in 2007 (Swan Lake and Jewels) and 2013 (Giselle) which were presented in the Capitol Theatre, Sydney by Leo Schofield [11] [12] [13] [14];

The Sydney Lyric Orchestra has performed and recorded a live CD of Handel's 'Rodelinda (opera)' with Richard Bonynge [15]

Typically the Sydney Lyric Orchestra is hired by a Producer for short-term projects. 'All You Need Is Love' is a full-scale performance in the Sydney Opera House of a Beatles homage performed [16] with Band, 4 singers, & full orchestra for "Box Office Hits" The music for the video game 'Zelda' was performed in the Sydney Opera House - again for Box Office Hits - in 2018 [17]

The Sydney Lyric Orchestra performed 'Opera in the Vineyards' in the Hunter Valley region of New South Wales 2008 - 2012 including accompanying Kiri Te Kanawa in 2011 [18]

Keating led the 'Sydney Opera House Orchestra' in the 1998 Sydney Festival performances of 'All You Need Is Beatles' conducted by Sir George Martin, and performances with Bernadette Peters [19] and Al Jarreau. Bugs Bunny on Broadway toured to Australia in 1996, and Keating formed an orchestra that also reprised this tour for 'Little Black Duck' Productions in 1998.

Keating conducted the Sutherland Shire Community Orchestra September 2019[20]

Arranging[edit]

Keating has a credit as music arranger and orchestrator on the motion picture film Candy (2006 film) [21] [22], & has many hours of arrangements composed for local Australian artists.

Keating composed 15 string arrangements for Jimmy Barnes' 'Flesh & Wood' National Australian tour 2015, that included songs from his Flesh and Wood album.

Keating has examples of his arrangements including Pinball Wizard, Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic, All You Need Is Love, Clocks (song), Imagine, Mama Mia and A Sky Full of Stars [23] written for Strings and/or orchestra on "Sheet Music Plus"

Teaching[edit]

As a teacher and mentor Keating has demonstrated a willingness to pass his experience to young musicians and performed Master Classes in Hervey Bay, Queensland sponsored by the Queensland Education Department, and in Bathurst and Orange, New South Wales. [25]

Music Venue[edit]

Keating managed (as Artistic Director) a Music venue in Crows Nest 2018-2022, a suburb on Sydney's lower north shore, 'Music@ StreetMarket'. It is situated above the "Street Market Asian Tapas" Restaurant, and specializes in Blues, Rhythm and blues, Funk music, Soul music operating on Fridays and Saturday nights. [26]
