Aeonic Radio Ltd, London, Company No. 234858[1] was an early manufacturer of radio receivers between 1928 and 1948. The company listed as public in 1929 and delisted in 1931. The manufacturing site was based at the Aeonic Works in Salfords, Horley, Surrey.

Rapid expansion in 1929 with the purchase of a German radio business Kramolin & Co. GmbH, Berlin - Pankow[2]to gain access to manufacturing capacity and numerous patents ultimately failed and was liquidated resulting in Aeonic calling for more capital to be raised.

May 1929. Capital increased to £225,000 with £125,000 issued

Cecil Hodges & Co. Ltd[edit]

Manufacturer of telephony and morse telegraph apparatus. The identification letters HJ were used by the GPO[5] to identify equipment by Cecil Hodges & Co. Ltd and Hodges Switchgear Co. Ltd. This company was bought by J L Gottlieb & Co. Ltd and the identification letters remained the same for Aeonic Radio as the parent of J L Gottlieb & Co. Ltd. 19th May 1933 Cecil Hodges & Co. Ltd was struck off the companies register and dissolved.[6]

Kramolin & Co., G.m.b.H[edit]

Early 1929 saw the purchase of more that 50% of the capital of this manufacturer of electrical apparatus for 1 million Reichsmarks.[7] (20.4 Reichsmarks to the Pound in 1929 was the equivalent of £49,000). The inventor Leon Ladislaus von Kramolin was the majority shareholder of Kramolin & Co. Gmbh who sold the company with 71 new English, German and American patents[8] to Aeonic Radio.

Kramolin AG of Munich existed as a public company from circa 1922 to 1925, and then became private as Kramolin Gmbh from 1925 to 1930 where the manufacturing site was moved to Pankstrasse in Berlin-Pankow district. The founders and directors were Dr. Hugo von Maffei, Dr. Ludwig Hirsch and Leon Ladislaus von Kramolin.
