AffiniPay Introduction

AffiniPay is a financial technology company based in Austin, Texas that provides online payment solutions for professional service associations, non-profit organizations, clinical psychology practices, CPAs, and lawyers.[1] It was founded in 2005 by University of Texas alumna Amy Porter.[2]

AffiniPay’s proprietary technology and processing systems allow professionals to accept credit, debit, and eCheck payments online while maintaining Level 1 PCI Compliance. Using the AffiniPay platform, professionals can request payment from clients, schedule recurring payments, make one-time charges, and refund payments. AffiniPay customers can also use the software’s reporting features to view transaction history, processing volume, and payment trends.

AffiniPay has been ranked in the Austin Business Journal’s Fast 50 for the last six consecutive years. The company has also been named to Inc.’s Top 100 Financial Service Companies and listed in Inc.’s annual ranking the last seven consecutive years for the fastest growing private companies in America.[3] Additionally, Porter received the 2016 EY Entrepreneur of the Year® Award in the Financial Technology category for the Central Texas region.[4]

History

In the early 2000s, Amy Porter founded Affiniscape Merchant Solutions, a payment processing provider that enabled associations to accept credit card payments online. Affiniscape Merchant Solutions began as a partner of Affiniscape, a developer of association management software. Eventually the payment technology side expanded beyond just the Affiniscape partnership and Porter came to an agreement with Affiniscape founder Adam Weedman, to dissolve the joint venture, rebranding Affiniscape Merchant Solutions as AffiniPay. Affiniscape later sold to Your Membership in 2012. The two companies, AffiniPay and Your Membership, continue to maintain the partnership to service and support mutual clients.

In 2007, AffiniPay launched LawPay, its solution specifically designed for legal professionals. LawPay’s platform separates earned and unearned fees to ensure law firms avoid commingling client fees. With LawPay no debits are allowed from a firm’s IOLTA account. It is the only payment solution offered through the American Bar Association and the only payment software approved by all 50 state bars organizations and more than 60 local and specialty bar associations.

After learning CPAs were using LawPay to process payments, AffiniPay launched CPACharge in 2016, an online payment platform developed for certified public accountants. CPACharge offers full daily deposit of client funds and deducts no fees until the beginning of the following month, allowing for easier payment reconciliation. It is the only approved payment solution offered as an American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) Member Discount Partner.
