Affinity Federal Credit Union is a credit union.[1] It is a LLC that works as a financial cooperative. [2] The union specializes in financial products like insurance, investment, deposit accounts, security, credit cards, debit cards, investments and other associated financial services. [2] The union is located in Basking Ridge, New Jersey. It is part of the Banks & Credit Unions Industry. [3] The credit union has 23 branches across New Jersey, New York (state) and Connecticut, along with 5000 shared branches across the USA. [4] It is the largest credit union in Basking Ridge, New Jersey.[5]

History[edit]

The credit union was established on December 13, 1935. It was formed to provide cooperative credit and serve employee-needs of the Western Electric company. [6] In 1974, the membership was extended to include AT&T members, subsequently the name of the union was changed to General Headquarters Federal Credit Union. [6] In 1984, the headquarters were shifted to New Providence in New Jersey. Towards the end of 1986 its name was changed to AT&T Employees Federal Credit Union. After AT&T was split into 3 companies, the credit union's name was changed to Affinity Federal Credit Union.

AFCU scholarship[edit]

The credit union offers a one-time $2500 scholarship to student members of the union who are US citizens or resident aliens and members of the union with a good reputation. [7] Volunteers, employees, board members or their families are ineligible.

Membership eligibility[edit]

In order to join the union certain requirements must be met-[8]

  1. Live, work, worship or attend school in New Brunswick,NJ, or certain areas in New Jersey and Connecticut.
  2. Must work for a company or be a part of an organization that is approved by the union.
  3. A 5$ donation must be made while applying to join the New Jersey coalition for Financial education or, the Connecticut Jump$tart coalition.

Membership can be applied online, by phone or at any one of the branches.
