African Institute for Development Policy (AFIDEP) is an independent not-for-profit research and policy think-tank that was founded in February 2010. It is the only African-led think-tank based in Africa focusing exclusively on bridging the gap between research and policy in sub-Saharan Africa’s development. Their main objectives are to: “synthesize and translate research evidence, enable the utilization of research evidence in decision-making, and strengthen capacity in research evidence synthesis, translation and utilization.”[1] AFIDEP informs domestic and international policy making through publishing research and events.[1] It is a leading research organization in Africa. [2]
Their focus areas are: Population Dynamics and Demographic Dividends, Health and Wellbeing, Transformative Education and Skills Development, The Environment and Climate Change, Governance and Accountability.[3][4]
History
African Institute for Development Policy was founded in February 2010 in Nairobi, Kenya.[2] Its founder is Eliya Zulu, who is its current Executive Director.[1][5] The organization has been influencing policy in Malawi, Kenya and the rest of Africa through its research.[2] Since then it has grown to become a leading research organization in Africa and has a presence in Uganda, Zambia, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Ghana and Nigeria.[2]

Funding
They are registered as a non-profit in Malawi, Kenya, and the USA with 501c3 tax exempt status.
