African socialism

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

African socialism is a political ideology and a collection of socialist traditions developed in Africa, particularly during the period of decolonisation in the mid-20th century. It seeks to combine socialist principles with African cultural traditions, communal values and concepts of collective responsibility. Unlike some European socialist traditions, African socialism has often emphasised the importance of traditional African social structures, economic self-reliance, national independence and Pan-Africanism. Its various interpretations include the Ujamaa philosophy of Tanzania's Julius Nyerere and the philosophical ideas of Ghana's Kwame Nkrumah.
