Aftab Amin, (born 08 August in Karachi, Pakistan) is a biochemist and cancer researcher from Hong Kong, known for his discovery of ORC dimerization in the process of DNA replication initiation.[1] Amin's research focuses on DNA replication in human cells and in yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae; the mechanisms that ensure accurate inheritance of genetic material from one generation to the next; and how missteps in this process lead to cancer. He has also contributed to the discovery of novel replication initiation proteins, hIPI3 [2] and hNOC3.[3]
Life and career
Dr. Amin was educated at Island School Hong Kong, then graduated with honours and an M.Phil from the University of Abertay UK, earned a PGCert – Higher Education Teaching from the University of Dundee UK, and attained his PhD from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.[4]
