Aggropop

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Aggropop is an aggressive pop music outgrowth of the Industrial-pop genre, with a sound that is usually less industrial, and more pop.[1] Popular artists such as Porcelain Black (Porcelain and the Tramps), Die Antwoord, Natalia Kills, MISSIO, SOPHIE, K.Flay, and Kerli feature this sound, as well as more niche acts like Ayria, Former Vandal, Miss Krystle , and Zombie Girl.

Background and Origins[edit]

Aggropop has roots in the Industrial pop movement with artists such as Ayria, Rein [2][3], Chaism, Zombie Girl and even Porcelain Black . It features strong vocals, slamming beats, and distorted dance drums and synths with pop vocals. [4] Characterized by usually upbeat, sexy, dark lyrics, it ventures into R&B and Hip-Hop genres as well as EDM and electro-industrial. [5][4]

Alfa Matrix and Metropolis Records were early pioneers of the Industrial roots of the Aggropop genre, signing acts that began blending synth-pop and industrial styles. Formative Industrial acts for the genre were licensed from German markets for distribution in United States through Metropolis records, which went on to develop new artists that began breaking into the mainstream.[6]
