Agilan Thani (born August 18, 1995) is a Malaysian mixed martial artist who is currently signed to ONE Championship, where he competes in the ONE Welterweight division.

Thani struggled with obesity in his early years, weighing as much as 140 kilograms, and often had to endure bullying.[1] At the age of 13, he started training in martial arts. In a span of one year, he was able to lose 55 kilograms through training in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, among other martial arts. He then began training in mixed martial arts at Monarchy MMA at the age of 16.[2]

Mixed martial arts career[edit]

Agilan Thani first competed in amateur MMA, appearing on F3 Championship and Malaysian Invasion. He compiled a flawless 6–0 record in amateur competition, finishing 5 of his 6 opponents.

On February 14, 2017, Agilan Thani defeated Jeff Huang at ONE Championship: Throne of Tigers by submission via rear-naked choke in the second round.[9] At this point, Thani was enjoying a dominant start to his MMA career, being undefeated at 6–0.

Thani received his first big break when he challenged Ben Askren for the ONE Welterweight World Championship at ONE Championship: Dynasty of Heroes.[10][11] On May 26, 2019, Agilan Thani lost to Ben Askren by first-round submission via arm-triangle choke, denying him a world title.[12]

On March 9, 2018, Thani defeated Amitesh Chaubey by second-round submission via kimura at ONE Championship: Visions of Victory.[14]

On July 13, 2018, Agilan Thani lost to future ONE Welterweight World Champion Zebaztian Kadestam by third-round technical knockout at ONE Championship: Pursuit of Power.[15]
