Choi Fai Aglaia Kong was past CTO of Google, Cisco Systems, and Symantec. She is currently the CEO and CTO for ExaLeap, a technology company focusing on smart home, smart enterprise, smart health and smart city solutions for social impact that she started with Peter Lee Ka-kit.

Early life and education[edit]

Kong was born and raised in a rural village in China. Her parents were both engineers and often were out travelling, so Kong lived with her grandmother. She spent two years in Macau for secondary school and Canada for high school.[1] She graduated from the University of Minnesota with an Electrical Engineering degree.[citation needed]

Career[edit]

After graduating from the University of Minnesota, Aglaia worked as a Research Assistant in the Department of Chemical Engineering in 1985 publishing papers.[2] She worked as a software engineer and designed systems to integrate the Global Position System (GPS) and Geographical Information System (GIS) together for Mapping and Surveying and holds a patent for that.[3]

In 1997 Kong joined Symantec Software as the first female Fellow, CTO/Vice President and was awarded the Annual Tribute to Women (TWIN) Award by YWCA of Silicon Valley.[4]

In 2010, Kong joined Cisco Systems as VP/GM for Connected Platform Group and focused in delivering products and platforms to enable various vertical solutions in education, health care and smart cities. In 2011, she became Chief Technology Officer (CTO) for Cisco China and worked to build a solution in education, healthcare, and energy management to take advantage of the China Country Investment Initiative.[5][6]

At Cisco, Kong was also the CTO for IOE (Internet of Everything) Solution Group and VP of Technology leading solution innovation for IOT.[7][8] IOE is about connecting things, Internet of Things (IOT), together for different vertical.[9]

In 2016, Kong joined Google as CTO overseeing the Google and Alphabet network infrastructure. Leveraging Artificial Intelligent (AI) and Machine Learning (ML), she designed the overall architecture to build Software-defined Networking (SDN) infrastructure. With SDN, the network is configured and optimized automatically based on intent and policy. She was also part of Google Cloud CTO Office and initiated Google Cloud IOT Core and worked on Google's smart building effort worldwide.[10][11]
