Ahmad Najib Burhani
Ahmad Najib Burhani (born 27 April 1976, in Blitar) is an Indonesian scientist and an activist of religious freedom. In government, he holds the position as the chairman of the Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities, National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), Indonesia since 1 September 2021 .[1] He received his doctoral degree in Religious Studies from University of California, Santa Barbara in 2013.[2] After his return to Indonesia, he was selected as a member of Indonesian Young Academy of Sciences (ALMI), part of Indonesian Academy of Sciences (AIPI).[3] From 2017 to 2020, Burhani was a visiting fellow at ISEAS - Yusof Ishak Institute, Singapore.[4] He was inaugurated as research professor at the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) in 2020.[5] He is the author of several books, such as Islam Nusantara as a Promising Response to Religious Intolerance and Radicalism (ISEAS, 2018), Heresy and politics: how Indonesian Islam deals with extremism, pluralism, and populism (Suara Muhammadiyah, 2020), The New Santri: Challenges to Traditional Religious Authority in Indonesia (ISEAS, 2020), The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN): A New Arrangement for Research in Indonesia (ISEAS, 2021).[6]
