Ahmed Sakhratulayevich Azimov (Script error: The function "langx" does not exist.; born 17 June 1977) is a Russian businessman and public figure. Since October 2024, he has chaired the Russian–Algerian Business Council at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation.[1][2]
Early life and education
Azimov was born in Makhachkala on 17 June 1977. He studied Oriental and African studies at Saint Petersburg State University and later completed a professional training programme in creative and innovative management at Moscow State University.[3]
Public and professional activity
From 2008 to 2010, Azimov chaired the executive committee of the nationwide public movement Russian Congress of the Peoples of the Caucasus.[4]
In 2011, he was deputy chairman of the Council for Nationalities under the Government of Moscow and coordinator of the Expert Council of the Russian Council of Muftis. In that capacity, he was interviewed by Rossiyskaya Gazeta about nationalism, religious extremism and relations between ethnic and religious communities in Russia.[5] In 2019, Business Online included Azimov at number 75 in its ranking of 100 influential Muslims in Russia, identifying him as the head of the Moscow branch of the Russian Congress of the Peoples of the Caucasus and an adviser to mufti Ravil Gaynutdin.[6]
In October 2024, Azimov was elected chairman of the Russian–Algerian Business Council. At a council meeting in November, he described the body as a platform for business dialogue and for addressing barriers between Russian and Algerian companies.[1][2] During a Russian business mission to Algeria in April 2025, he told TASS that the discussions covered industrial cooperation, joint investment, local production, financial settlements and certification, and that Algeria could serve as an entry point for Russian companies into African markets.[7] The same mission included the signing of cooperation agreements between Russian and Algerian business institutions.[8]
Honours
In January 2024, Azimov received a commendation from the president of Russia for professional achievements and long service.[9]
