Ahmad Matlub (Arabic: أحمد مطلوب) (October 25, 1936 – July 21, 2018[3]) was a Professor of Rhetoric and Criticism, head of the Iraqi Scientific Academy. In 1967 he was the Minister of Culture and Guidance in Iraq.
Education
He studied elementary and middle school in Tikrit (1941-1950), then he studied high school in Karbala and completed his high school in Al-Karkh in Baghdad. He obtained a bachelor's degree in Arabic language from the College of Arts and Sciences in Baghdad (Arabic Language Department) with a grade of excellent in 1956, and he was the first in all departments of the college.[3] He then obtained a Master's degree in rhetoric and criticism with a very good degree from Cairo University in 1961. Then a doctorate in rhetoric and criticism with first honors from Cairo University in 1963.
Career
- He worked as a teacher in Kirkuk High School in 1957
- He moved to work as a teacher in “Al-Tijara middle school” in Baghdad 1957-57.
- He worked as a teaching assistant at the College of Arts at the University of Baghdad since 1958, then as an assistant professor, then an associate professor, then a professor.
- He became Director General of Press and Guidance in the Ministry of Culture and Guidance in 1964
- He worked as Director General of Culture in the same ministry in 1964
- He worked as the head of the media department at the University of Baghdad from 1966-1969.
- In 1967 Dr. Ahmed Matlub became the Minister of Culture and Guidance in Iraq. Then he joined Kuwait University as an Associate Professor from 1971 - 1978. He worked as a visiting professor at the Institute for Arab Research and Studies in Cairo, Martin Luther University in Germany, and the University of Oran in Algeria.
- He became dean of the College of Arts at the University of Baghdad from 1984 to 1986
- He became Secretary General of the High Commission for the care of the Arabic Language in Iraq from 1986 until 2003
- In 2007 he held the position of President of the Iraqi Scientific Academy, which is considered the highest scientific organization in Iraq He became a member of the Jordanian Arabic Language Academy in addition to the Jordanian Scientific Academy.
Awards
He won the King Faisal International Prize in the Arabic Language and Literature Branch at a ceremony held in Riyadh, he was equally awarded the prize with Professor Muhammad Rashad Hamzawi from Tunisia, who was previously a Professor of Arabic Language and Head of the Arabic Language Department at the College of Arts at Sultan Qaboos University in 1428 AH.[4][5]
Works
He published 37 books about rhetoric, criticism, literature, dictionaries and Arabization. He published 15 edited books of heritage in poetry and rhetoric of the Holy Qur’an. He published more than 60 scientific papers in the field of linguistics, criticism, language, the sciences of the Qur’an, interpretation, Hadith, Arabization of sciences and scientific terminology.
