Ahmed Wafiq (born June 26, 1979) is an Egyptian entrepreneur, investor, and real estate mogul. He is a 43-year-old entrepreneur with multiple accolades, and his company, Ahmed Wafiq Enterprises, has helped more than 1500 businesses and households with their real estate requirements. He was born on June 26, 1979, in Cairo, Egypt.[1]
Education[edit]
Ahmed Wafiq is the eldest of four children. Both his parents were entrepreneurs, and his father was a grocery merchant. Ahmed studied at Cairo American College, and he graduated from Cario University. Later, he attended the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, obtaining his MBA degree.[1]
Early life[edit]
When Ahmed was 11 years old, he started his first business by selling used books in his neighbourhood, and it was a profitable venture. Within a month, he had made four times the amount of money Ahmed had invested. He loved it so much that he replicated it by selling other items that were no longer in use by his family. This was also a successful venture. The entrepreneurial spirit within him compelled him to continue. He wanted to do more on a regular basis. With the help of his grandfather, he opened a small video DVD store in his neighborhood at the age of 13. This was a huge success.
As a high school student with little social life, he spent much of his lunch breaks at the library reading about business leaders. He was pretty keen on creating something on his own. His cousin introduced him to his friend, who was helping his father with the real estate company. During summer vacation, he joined them as an assistant. In addition to learning about business, he also learned a lot about construction, investing, and monetization.[1]
Career[edit]
In 1998, Ahmed Wafiq began investing in real estate with seed funding of E£600,000 from his father. When he started buying real estate, he managed to find intelligent people to work with who had the knowledge he didn't. He bought buildings that were completed or close to full and rented them out for 10% less than the market rate. His company made it comparable to a better building, but we rent it for 10% cheaper. This was fantastic, as he maintained occupancy. His company remortgaged the building five to seven years later.[1]
In an interview, Ahmed Wafiq says, "We do not have the finest buildings." We are not fancy builders who lavish elegance and luxury on the lower floors but cut down on the upper floors, where the rooms are smaller and less appealing. They are creating the brand name while I am earning a lot of money. Ahmed Wafiq has a strong portfolio of high-quality residential and commercial properties in the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, and Morocco.[1]
Trivia[edit]
For more than 40 years, the Wafiq family has been involved in community activism and advocacy for the arts, political representation, social justice, and, more recently, ongoing participation in creating a private food bank.[1]
