Aida Kamišalić Latifić
Aida Kamišalić Latifić (born in 1980 in Zvornik.)[1] is a researcher and professor at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, University of Maribor. She was the Slovenian Woman Engineer of the Year in 2019.
Early life and education[edit]
Aida Kamišalić Latifić came to Slovenia when she was 12 years old, in 1992 fleeing from the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina.[2][3]
She attended Maribor's First High School and then, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Computer and Information Science of the University of Maribor (UM FERI).[4] She received her Bachelors degree in 2003, and a PhD degree in Computer Science and Informatics from the University of Maribor in 2014. Her dissertation was on medical informatics.[5]
Research and career[edit]
Kamišalić Latifić's research focuses on blockchain technology, temporal and relational databases and medical informatics. In the area of medical informatics, she studies temporal constraints and temporal knowledge in medical processes, and formal representations of clinical algorithms and Electronic Health Records.[6]
As part of her work on blockchain, she contributed to the EduCTX: A Blockchain-Based Higher Education Credit Platform, which enables digital micro-certification management. This work received the eNagrada award from the Slovenian Informatics Society as the best project in computing machinery and informatics.[7][8]
She is a member of the Ladies of Informatics initiative.[9]
Awards[edit]
Kamišalić Latifić won the Slovenian Woman Engineer of the Year award in 2019.[2]
She was also the recipient of a research award in November 2019 given by the University of Maribor, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.[10]
