Air Cargo Carriers Flight 1260 was a cargo flight from Louisville International Airport, Kentucky to Yeager Airport, Charleston on May 5, 2017. The flight was being operated by a Short 330 aircraft by Air Cargo Carriers on behalf of UPS Airlines. During landing onto runway 5 flight 1260's left wing hit the runway surface and the aircraft crashed down a wooded hillside beside the runway. The both pilots on board were fatally injured, and were found dead later at a nearby hospital. The National Transportation Safety Board has launched an investigation along with Short Brothers.[1][2][3][4]

Aircraft[edit]

The aircraft was a Short 330-200 operated by Air Cargo Carriers on behalf of UPS Airlines with the registration N334AC. The aircraft was 37 years old at the time of the crash and had its first flight on May 31, 1979 with a small charter airline company [1]


Crew[edit]

The crew flying Flight 1260, was a pilot and an co-pilot. The captain was 47-year-old Jonathan Pablo Alvarado,from Stamford Texas. The First Officer was Ank K. Ho, from Cross Lanes, West Virginia.

Accident[edit]

The accident occurred at 06:53 on May 5, 2017. The Short 330 was on approach to Runway 5, while landing the aircraft struck the runway 340 feet after the beginning of the runway threshold. From the first point of contact with the runway, the aircraft skidded a total of 650 feet off the left of the runway, its tail and left wing were torn off and the aircraft went into down a thick-wooded hillside. Both Alvarado and Ho sustained fatal injuries, and died later in an nearby hospital. There was no distress call reported from the crew prior to the crash.[1]

Investigation[edit]

The National Transportation Safety Board found that the plane was not equipped with a cockpit voice recorder or a flight data recorder.[5] On May 6, 2017 the NTSB reported they have a surveillance video showing the crash and are currently examining the video. There were witness marks and gouge marks on the runway where the aircraft struck the runway. According to preliminary information the aircraft was in a left bank at the time it first impacted runway. NTSB Investigator Bill English said that the sky was overcast, with about 10 miles of visibility from the Runway 5. [6]
