Air China Flight 403 was a scheduled flight from Chengdu Tianfu International Airport in China to Singapore Changi Airport in Singapore. The aircraft had a engine failure and landed at Singapore Changi Airport. All 155 occupants survived, but 9 were injured either by inhaling the smoke or abrasions while evacuating.
Aircraft[edit]
The aircraft was an Airbus A320-271neo. The Accident plane had a tail registration as B-305J.[citation needed]
Accident[edit]
On September 10, 2023, the plane took off at Chengdu Tianfu International Airport. During the flight, the left engine of the Airbus A320-271neo had caught fire, resulting in smoke entering the plane’s forward cargo hold and lavatory. The pilots declared an emergency and requested a priority landing at 4:15 pm[1]. A video on Twitter showed footage recorded by the passenger during the emergency landing. In the video, there was smoke shown present throughout the cabin. Fortunately, all passengers were safely evacuated upon landing as emergency slides were deployed, and nine passengers sustained minor injuries related to smoke inhalation.[2][3][4][5][6][7]
Investigation[edit]
As of March 2024, the cause of the engine fire is still under investigation by the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore with assistance from its Chinese counterpart.[2] Air China claims that the fire was caused by mechanical fault in the engine.[8]
Aftermath[edit]
The runway the plane landed was closed for hours at Changi Airport. They are currently unable to share more details as the accident is still under investigation.
